Why it matters
Production animals routinely face heat, transport, environmental change, respiratory pressure and other stressors that can suppress immunity, reduce feed intake and compromise growth or production. Left unmanaged, these pressures translate into higher treatment costs, mortality risk, reproductive losses and lower farm productivity.
Heat stress alone has been linked with reduced milk, meat and egg output, impaired reproduction and significant economic losses, while climate change is increasing the importance of resilient production systems. Supporting animals through periods of physiological and environmental challenge is therefore increasingly important to both welfare and long-term farm viability.
